Duluth, Minn., July 24, 1923.

Mr. J. J. Sullivan,

Warden-State Board of Parole,
Stillwater, Minn.

Dear Sir:
I am wondering if you have any personal knowledge of the case of Mr. Max Mason, colored, who has been in you institution the past two years.
I became well acquainted with Mr. Mason during the time he was held in the County Jail here, as one of the features of our work is the religious work among the inmates of the County Jail. I am convinced that Mr. Mason deserves every leniency that could be granted him and in fact, personally, I am convinced of his absolute innocence.
In the hope that Mr. Mason’s case may be brought before the Board of Pardon and Parole again this fall, I am desiring information as to his prison record, in order that I may know how favourable his case may be. I may possibly appear personally at the next meeting of the Board in order to intercede for Mr. Mason in behalf of his pardon or parole and any information you office can supply me will be greatly appreciated.

Yours very truly,
I. E. Nolte,
Supt. of the Duluth Mission.
