ST. PAUL, Minn (September 26, 2024) – Fall is here, and there's no better way to get into the spirit of the season than by visiting the Minnesota Historical Society’s historic sites and museums across southern Minnesota. Many educational and entertaining activities and tours will be offered in the coming months. Events are being added all of the time, so stay up-to-date by keeping an eye on the events calendar.

 

Historic Forestville, Preston

 

Apple Cider Pressing, October 5

Partake in making one of fall's most delicious beverages, apple cider. Watch the gears turn as you crank the 100 year old apple press! This event is included with regular site admission.

 

Apple Butter Boil, October 12

Observe the skills and methods it takes to make delicious apple butter in the spectacular demonstration. You might even get a chance to help stir the bubbling butter within the copper kettle. This event is included with regular site admission.

 

Guided Cemetery Hike- October 18 and 19

Learn about the creators and founders of Forestville by hiking through the Zumbro Hill Cemetery. This guided tour will teach about this southeastern town in the 1850s and 1860s as well as cemetery traditions from that era. Tickets are $18; MNHS members save 20%.

 

Trick-or-Treating- October 26t

Experince an early All Hallows’ Eve in our charming Victorian town at Historic Forestville! Enjoy trick-or-treating, wagon rides, games, crafts, and more. This event is included with regular site admission.

 

Don’t miss the ongoing tours at Historic Forestville! You’ll be immersed in history on an Interpreter Guided Tour or take a Horse-Drawn Wagon Ride!

Pipestone Carving Demonstration- September 28

Join Alexander Lund for a pipestone carving demonstration. Observe the techniques and the process of carving and learn about its cultural and geographical significance. This event is included with regular site admission.

 

Traverse des Sioux, St. Peter

 

Shadows at the Crossing: Spirits of Old Traverse des Sioux- October 4 and 5

Step back in time in an immersive outdoor lantern-lit walking tour with the Shadows at the Crossing: Spirits of the Old Traverse des Sioux. Hear stories of the spirits and the courage, resilience, conflict, and cooperation and gain a deeper understanding of Minnesota's heritage. Tickets are between $5 - $10; Nicollet County Historical Society and MNHS members save 20%
