Mr Chas E Vasaly:-
Dear Sir:-
In reply to your letter for informasion [sic] about Carl John Alfred Hammerberg
He has spend conciderable [sic] of his time at our farm he always seem satisfied to sociate [sic] just with our family and stayd [sic] right with us. We were very much surprised when he was blamed for a thing like that. For he was very much of a coward

a bird in the woods could scare him.
The last coupple [sic] of years he has been old enough to got woork [sic] in town and so he has helped his mother for she is a widow. he has always sociated [sic] with boys that was much younger than himself, and nice boys at that.
The reason he was convicted he has been brought upp [sic] to tell the truth and so he did. On the trail [sic] there was not one wittnes [sic] against him. He just told the truth like he has been brought upp [sic] to do and that was that he went with the crowd. and there were thousands

that did the same.

Yours truely [sic]
C J Johnson
