To the Honorable Board of Pardons,
St. Paul,
Minnesota.
Gentlemen:
Gilbert Henry Stephenson, in whose behalf I
understand an application for a pardon is being made, worked for our firm for
about six months during 1920.
During his employment with us we always found
Stephenson faithful, honest, industrious and steady. At no time did Stephenson
do anything while in our employ which in any way would indicate that he
possessed vicious tendencies.
In recommending to your honorable body that a
pardon be granted to Gilbert Henry Stephenson, we do not feel the slightest
hesitation in stating that when restored to his civil rights, he will prove a
worthy and upright citizen.
The affair which resulted in Stephenson’s
conviction was a very unfortunate one and ought largely to be blamed to other
sources than to any fault of Stephenson. In view of the fact that the law has
been vindicated, it is respectfully suggested that the best interests of society
can no longer be served by continuing to withhold from Stephenson his liberty.
