We are pleased to present to our many thousand readers in America the Rev. Wm. Powers, of Sacred Heart Cathedral, of Duluth, Minn. The Rev. Powers was born in Marquette, Mich. 36 years ago, and studied in St. Paul, Minn., in class with Dr. Theopold. has resided in Duluth two years as pastor of Sacred Heart Cathedral. The above Christian gentleman is the one who made a speech on Tuesday night June 15th to the howling mob, and tried to save the life of the three colored citizens, and begged these law breakers to let the law take its course, but these heathens paid no attention to Father Powers, who is the head of one of the largest Catholic churches in the Northwest, and said, “to hell with the law.” While interviewing the above gentleman, Father Powers told the editor that he would do his utmost to see that these law breakers were brought to justice, and the awful stain on the city of Duluth and the state of Minnesota. We have other clergys of the city who are taking the same steps as this Christian gentleman. One of the leading doctors of the city of Duluth examined this white girl, and says there was nothing in the examination to prove the truth of her statements.
