The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and Minnesota Historical Society Press invite you to a special event on November 1 to celebrate the launch of a statewide one-read program in Minnesota schools of the book Voices from Pejuhutazizi: Dakota Stories and Storytellers.

Event highlights include:

  • A one-hour program beginning at 5:30 pm, featuring remarks by SMSC Secretary/Treasurer Rebecca Crooks-Stratton and Minnesota Historical Society CEO Kent Whitworth, as well as a presentation and reading by the book’s wonderful authors, Teresa Peterson and Walter “Super” LaBatte.
  • The Minnesota Historical Society Press will sell copies of the book at a discounted price, and the authors will be available to sign copies.
  • The Minnesota History Center’s exhibit Our Home: Native Minnesota and the newest exhibit, Reframing Our Stories, featuring dozens of photographs of Native community members, organizations, activities, and events that are relevant today, will be open until 7:30 pm.
  • Refreshments will be served, courtesy of the SMSC.
