Minnesota Salsa Fiesta!

The annual Minnesota Salsa Fiesta returns to Mill City Museum with a full evening of music, dancing and food.

OUTDOORS the live music will go from 6 pm to 10 pm in the Ruin Courtyard with two stages built above the historic turbine pits. One stage will feature Cuban percussion star Yolanda Rodriguez with a huge salsa orchestra of top Twin Cities talent. The second stage will showcase professional dancers and salsa team ensembles. A free salsa lesson will be offered as part of the evening’s festivities.

INDOORS attendees will be able to sample Latino food, beverage, and merchandise vendors. beverages. Victor Yepéz and other artists from Soluna Arts will energize the space with vibrant colors and visual art inspired by salsa music and dance.

Salsa Fiesta will showcase a range of salsa, from raw rumba and classic danzón to modern timba. While 9-piece bands are typical in nightclubs, Salsa Fiesta will expand to a 20-piece salsa orchestra. Attendees will experience the full salsa sound with horns, string section, coro singers, and overflowing percussion.

At 10 pm, when live music ends outdoors, the festivities continue indoors with an indoor after party with a DJ spinning salsa, merengue, bachata and cumbia. After Party admission will be sold at the door only, capacity permitting, for $15. DJ, food, and festivities will continue until midnight. Admission to the after party is included with the ticket to the main event.

In advance of the event the public can receive free salsa lessons Saturday July 8, and 15 from 11 am to noon in the Ruin Courtyard.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council and Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
